GLOBALSTAGE AND BBC TO FILM SNAP THEATRE'S FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD

May 20, 1998 San Francisco, CA - Globalstage Productions, Inc. has recruited the BBC to film a live London performance of Thomas Hardys Far From the Madding Crowd at The Chelsea Center on May 22.

Launching its groundbreaking series of the worlds best childrens theatre on video last year, Globalstage selected Far From the Madding Crowd as its fourth release and exceptional example of British drama. The nationally acclaimed SNAP Theatre Company heightens the drama in this adaptation of Hardys bucolic story about romance and jealousy by incorporating impromptu audience participation.

When she first saw the play, Globalstage founder and president, Lizbeth Pratt, commented, "I thought it was really indicative of British theatre and thought the subject matter was very good. The play shows that there are all kinds of love, but not all of them will make you happy."

To capture the essence of Thomas Hardys rustic childhood, the BBC and Globalstage personalities, Dr. Elizabeth McNamer and young Preston Blakeley, will film at Hardys cottage in Dorset, where the two will discuss important influences on Hardys writing and literary period. Next, they travel to the National Portrait Gallery to see Hardys portrait and talk about his life. Their invaluable discussions are a hallmark of each Globalstage video.

Globalstage has filmed three productions for release on home video to date. Its first two, Frankenstein and Pinocchio by Stage One: The Louisville Childrens Theatre, have received rave reviews by parents and educators. This month, Globalstage will release its third video, Cyrano, by the award-winning theatre, Blauw Vier in Antwerp, Belgium. Far from the Madding Crowd is scheduled for release July 15.
