GLOBALSTAGE TO FILM THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU AT TAPROOT THEATRE WITH LIVE SEATTLE AUDIENCE

April 12, 1999 Seattle WA - Globalstage Productions visits Seattle, Washington this month to film their new production of The Island of Dr. Moreau. The play, performed by Seattle's Taproot Theatre is based on H.G. Wells' classic science fiction thriller and was adapted for the stage by Seattle resident Sean Gaffney. Globalstage will spend four days filming the play at the Taproot Theatre and location scenes around the Seattle area, from April 18th through the 21st.

The public is invited to attend a free performance of the play on Sunday April 18th. Globalstage will be filming the performance together with the live audience. People interested in attending can call Globalstage toll-free at 888.324.5623. Seating is limited and RSVP's will be required to attend the performance.

Globalstage discovered Taproot Theatre when Lizbeth Pratt, Globalstage CEO and founder, along with her 12 year old son Preston Blakeley, saw Taproot's performance of Moreau during the Seattle Fringe Festival earlier this year. "We consider Seattle to be one of the best theatre cities in the United States. Families who live here are very lucky to have access to extremely high caliber theatre performed by such talented companies as Taproot and the incomparable Seattle Children's Theatre," says Pratt.

The Island of Dr. Moreau is a science-fiction drama that follows the mysterious experiments of a mad scientist on a deserted island in the Pacific. The story raises interesting philosophical and ethical questions that are relevant in today's society. Gaffney, Taproot's Managing Director, wrote the adaptation. "I wanted to deepen the questions that H.G. Wells' raised over 100 years ago when he wrote this story. I think the main question in the story centers on how we define what is human. Science today continues to explore this same question."
