GLOBALSTAGE VIDEOS PREMIERE AT VIDEO SOFTWARE DEALERS ASSOCIATION CONVENTION
July 7, 1998, Las Vegas, NV -- The world's best children's theatre comes to Vegas this week as Globalstage Productions, Inc. of San Francisco introduces award-winning children's theatre videos to the 17th annual Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) Convention.
Making its first major video industry appearance, Globalstage will promote its upcoming release, Far From the Madding Crowd, while showcasing the first three titles in a subscription series designed to capture the best professional children's theatre available to families, filmed by the BBC.
The company's first release, Frankenstein by Stage One: The Louisville Children's Theatre won a 1998 National Educational Media Network Bronze Apple Award. Its second video, Pinocchio, received a Parents' Choice Gold Award from the Parents' Choice Foundation and was recently endorsed by the Coalition for Quality Media (Kids First). Cyrano, by an award-winning theater in Antwerp, Belgium, has also garnered critical praise, with reviews upcoming in "Video Librarian" and "School Library Journal."
Providing quality entertainment that the whole family can enjoy is the cornerstone of Globalstage's philosophy. The founder and president, Lizbeth Pratt, is a working mother who viewed live theatre as the perfect entertainment alternative for her twelve-year-old son, Preston. Her key motivation in starting Globalstage last year was to bring great performances to American living rooms.
VSDA boasts over 300 exhibitors and a public attendance of 20,000. Entertainment giants like Disney, Warner, and Buena Vista are typical. Located in the KidScreen section, Globalstage Director of Sales, Robert Knapp, Jr. and Craig Resnick, CFO, will be available to meet fellow participants.
"Our goal at VSDA is to have video buyers, retailers, and distributors recognize the quality of individual Globalstage titles and our series," said Knapp.
The Globalstage video series sells for $135 and includes six plays delivered to subscribers every other month. Customers can purchase the series or individual titles ($27 each) via the company's toll-free number: 1-888-32-GLOBE or website, www.globalstage.net. The videos are also available through Book of the Month Club's children's catalogue, Barnes and Noble, Smithsonian, and select retailers.
